Animals are just as susceptible to suffering from back and neck pain, as well as muscular injuries as us humans. And as in humans, this pain can cause stiffness, loss of mobility, a loss of performance, and behavioural changes.
McTimoney treatment can benefit all animals, not only as a remedial treatment, but also as a preventative treatment to maintain optimum health.
What is McTimoney?
McTimoney is a manipulative therapy based on the techniques of human chiropractic. However, the term 'chiropractor' is reserved only for those practitioners qualified to treat humans. Animal practitioners therefore refer to themselves as McTimoney Animal Practitioners.
Within any musculoskeletal system there is a considerable range of tolerance, which enables the body to adapt to injury or disease, so that it can still continue with day to day functions. However, once this tolerance range is exceeded, serious incapacitating symptoms are generated, i.e. in the form of lameness or a decrease in performance, and this is usually when veterinary or practitioner intervention is sought. McTimoney aims to restore skeletal integrity and stability of the musculoskeletal system, so that the body’s own repair system can begin to function again and full health is restored.
Corinne works in conjunction with your animal's veterinary surgeon, and as with any complementary therapy, it is a legal requirement that you have gained your vets permission before Corinne can treat your animal. This can usually be done over the phone, and most vets appreciate the value of physiotherapy, and will happily agree for your horse to be treated. Corinne also works on veterinary referral cases from a number of local practices.
